Obama's MSM Allies Try Revise History: Individual Mandate is now a "Big GOP Idea"

Obama and the partisans progressive hack"journalists" in the MSM are promoting an utter falsehoold about the Individual Mandate – a complete revision of historical fact about the now-universally hated Individual Mandate:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/3460142

“The lawsuit against the health care overhaul filed Tuesday by Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum is focused on a provision that has long been advocated by conservatives, big business and the insurance industry.

The lawsuit by McCollum, a candidate for governor, and 12 other attorneys general, focuses on the provision that virtually all Americans will need to have health insurance by 2014 or face penalties.

The lawsuit calls this an “unprecedented encroachment on the liberty of individuals.” It states the Constitution doesn’t authorize such a mandate, the proposed tax penalty is unlawful and is an “unprecedented encroachment on the sovereignty of the states.”

“The truth is this is a Republican idea,” said Linda Quick , president of the South Florida Hospital and Health care Association. She said she first heard the concept of the “individual mandate” in a Miami speech in the early 1990s by Sen. John McCain , a conservative Republican from Arizona , to counter the “Hillarycare” the Clintons were proposing.”

And more lefitst "Pravda" smears:

http://apnews.excite.com/article/20100328/D9ENAG300.html

"Conservatives today say that's unacceptable. Not long ago, many of them saw a national mandate as a free-market route to guarantee coverage for all Americans - the answer to liberal ambitions for a government-run entitlement like Medicare.."

And this new "Big Lie" has gone viral in nearly every news outlet in the nation!

http://www.bing.com/search?FORM=IE8SRC&q=Mark+Pauly+health+policy&src=IE-Address

Senator Orrin Hatch has already set the record straight on this misinformation about Republican invovlement and intent at the time:

http://healthcare.nationalreview.com/post/?q=OTBlYzI5OTI0ZGE4MTc2ZTI1YjVkNmE3N2RiMzIyMDM=

"To be clear, I supported this alternative to President Clinton's massive federal takeover of the American health-care system, because my number-one priority was the defeat of yet another big-government assault on health care that the people of Utah overwhelmingly opposed. It's that simple.

In the intervening years, I went back and carefully examined, in close consultation with constitutional experts, the legal problems with many of the bills being supported at the time. This needed to be done, because of the hasty nature of the debate which was thrust upon us in 1994. It is simply a fact that Congress has never imposed this kind of mandate before. We concluded, as would any intelligent scholar of the Constitution, that this federal mandate requiring Americans to either purchase health insurance or face a punitive tax exceeds the authority the Constitution has given to Congress.

I have gone to great lengths on the Senate floor, in newspaper columns, and elsewhere to explain my conclusions, because I believe that this is a very important debate. Something, I might add, this administration has not even begun to do because they don't seem to care whether the proposals they support are Constitutional or not.....

It's regrettable that instead of examining the legality of their health-care monstrosity, the administration and its allies are simply going on a smear campaign."

Here is the truth about who originated the individual mandate - Hillary Clinton and radical leftist think-tanks (and its from a left-leaning site too):

http://www.findingdulcinea.com/news/Americas/2009/July/Revisiting-HillaryCare--What-It-Proposed-and-Why-It-Failed.html

"The doomed plan’s signature component was universal coverage. An individual mandate required all eligible U.S. citizens to purchase health care, while an employer mandate compelled all businesses, of all sizes, to provide insurance for their workers."

Conservatives/Libertrians and Republicans had better counter this disinformation campaign and fast - its completely false and silly!

The left is trying to rewrite history to claim that this is yet another attempt by the Republicans to aid the "evil" insurance lobby when the fact of the matter it was Democrats and the progressive lefts that colluded with the insurance industry to settle on the Individual Mandate and a multitrillion dollar taxpayer subsidy scheme (2.5 trillion in taxes plus an estimated 5.5 trillion in higher premiums above predicted status quo cost increases) plus a government monopoly market during the notorius May 2008 White House hosted secret meetings.

http://wylieecoyote.blogtownhall.com/2009/10/07/gop_exposes_democrats_corrupt_deal_on_unconstitutional_individual_mandates_with_evil_big_health_insurance!.thtml

ObamaCare was simply HillaryCare warmed over - but with more socialism tacked on with the government option!

But the government option was always a mere bargining chip. It was used to bully the insurance industry into complicity with their takeover by the government (what choice did they have when face with a radical left that commanded 258 House and 60 Senate seats; accept their transition into quasi-governmental utilites or go bankrupt almost immediately), keep the radical left "fired" up and motivated to support the takeover plan, and too fool opponents, Republicans, and conservatives into thinking that it, and not the individual mandate, was the centerpiece of the plan.

Unfortunately for Obama and the progressives, their own indicipline (statements back in August 2008 by Obama and the HHS secretary stating the government option wasn't essential), and conservative/libertrian research that uncovered how Compulsary Insurance schemes really function as a de facto government takeover of health insurance in states like Maine and Massachusetts.

http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=10576

The Individual Mandate is the singular most unpopular part of ObamaCare by far……and its the glue that holds the whole government run comand-and-control health care system together.

If the Individual Mandate goes, then Obamacare collapses like a house of cards - thats why the Democrats and the left are defending it so tenaciously and trying to pin it on the GOP.

Obama and the radical left knows that the Consitutional issues are real with the Individual Mandate are real and its also very likely to be repealed as its so unpopular - and that a dagger at the heart of their whole stealth takeover scheme!

This is clearly a bad attemempt by the Democrats/progressives to muddy the waters, rewrite history, and change the narrative – lets ensure that the truth gets out on this.

The Individual Mandate was never a "Conservative" or GOP idea!

Even excepting that some in the GOP (like Romney, Bob Bennett, etc) were fooled by leftsist as they simply didnt understand how the Individual Mandate was a ruse for de facto government run health care or were simply wrong in supporting it, the clear consensus among Conservatives and the GOP today is against it.

Opposing it now for Constituional and economic reasons is clearly the correct position - and one that is much better then "flip-flopping" to the wrong side of the issue as did Obama!

Obama villified Hillary throughout the 2008 primary campaign for supporting the Individual Mandate - guess what? He was right at the time!

http://wylieecoyote.blogtownhall.com/2009/09/28/obama_on_video_attacking_his_own_plan!_he_is_a_flip-flopper!.thtml

But now that he needs in to cement his de facto government takeover of health care and thus creating the dependecy needed to cement leftist politcal majorities for generations, he is off course all for it!

The GOP and Conservatives had better get out front of this "Revisionist History" propaganda campaign before it snowballs into the new conventional wisdom!

The Undoing of the American Revolution - ObamaCare's Individual Mandate Makes Us Serfs to the State!

The Individual Mandate is clearly Unconstitutional!

The Individual Mandate attempts to regulate INACTIVITY!

The federal government is attempting to force individual who are NOT engaging in commerce to do so! These individual who freely choose to pay their own HC bills are not harming anyone nor can be said to be disrupting commerce! And they are being dictated to buy a specific private product from another private entity by use of government power!

In short, the Federal government is attempting to force you to Contract with another private party!

Yes, the Individual Mandate is a huge and unprecidented danger to personal freedom and Individual Rights!

Anything less the its abolishement by the courts essentially sets us up for Unlimted governmental powers – this is a tremendous threat to freedom and Individual Rights!

This transfer of unchecked power from the citizen to the state is essentially an attempt by a small cabal of leftist radicals to overturn the American Revolution itself!

Soverignity will essentially be transfered from the citizen to the state - a CounterRevolution that transfers power to a small group of politically connected elites and unelected politicians - a regression back to a all-powerful, centralized government run by a new Aristocracy of politcans, uber wealthy, and unelected technocrats!

We will no longer be citizens but serfs who are enslaved to our new Masters who have deem themselves worthy of dictating every particular of our lives and lay claim to our incomes to go with their new power to dictate we engage in any behavior them deem "good for us" (while prohibiting all they see unfit)!

The power that this would give the Federal government is so vast that it we cannot in any creditable way to that we would truly be free and independent people in any meaningful way!

Underestimating this or saying its not cause for alarm is truely a severe underestimation of the threat to our Liberty!

The GOP & Conservatives needs to strongly advocate for the cause of Human Freedom – if its lost here, where will  it ever be regained?

Co-opting Freedom, Rights, and the Constiution: The Left is Now Engaged in a Propaganda Campign to Redefine the Very Meaning of the Words!

The radical left has caught on BIG TIME that freedom, liberty, and Constiutional government are politcal winners!

They are going to go on the offensive in a HUGE way to try to co-opt the very meaning of the Constitution and Freedom in an Orwellian way!

Just like how ObamaCare was sold by marketing government interventionist concept using free market terminology like “choice” and “cost reduction” etc

Look for the same stealing of the language to occur on other upcoming issues!

Here is an example from what Pelosi said today when gloating about ObamaCare in her house speech:

“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This legislation will lead to healthier lives, more liberty to pursue hopes.…This is the best action we can take on behalf of America’s family budget, and on behalf of the federal budget.”

Here is great article about how the enablers of the Radical left in the MSM are now pushing this perversion of reality and language:

“The proponents of the most regressive idea of government on the planet (Centralized control by a small group of elites who rule “for the people’s own good”) are now relabeling themselves as “Today’s Defender’s of the Constitution":

‘Today’s defenders of the Constitution are the progressives. Led by President Obama, they believe that the national government should not only protect the nation from attack, promote interstate commerce and protect individual rights but also solve national problems through federal legislation – from building infrastructure to promote economic growth to making the schools better to protecting workers from unjust employment practices. It is not surprising that the tea party-ers hate President Obama. He
 embodies the Antifederalists’ worst fears.’

The article goes on to equate “Progressivism” with all that is good and American – programs to help the poor, unemployed, etc. The author clearly implies that such programs are within the scope of the Constitutional authority when they in fact are not.”

We CANNOT allow the left to redefine the very meaning of Freedom!

We CANNOT LET THE LIE be told that these people are "the Defenders of the Constitution" when in fact they are sickening destroyers of this!

This is a frightening thing - TRULY ORWELLIAN in scope!

War is peace - hate is love - slavery is freedom - tyranny is rights?

WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!!!!

Spread the word NOW that the MSM and Radical Left is spreading this disinformantion!

The Danger of Individual Mandate - It MUST be Struck Down if We are to remain FREE!

"Health insurers - once private companies - are now organs of the federal government. Every citizen is a ward of the state, which can now compel you to have insurance; punish you if you don't; determine if your insurance is acceptable; punish you if it isn't. Thousands of new federal bureaucrats will soon spill from the D.C. Beltway and flood the country, scrutinizing our finances to verify compliance with this new law.

A government that grants itself this kind of power over us can conceivably do anything to us. For our own good, of course. Such a country is in no meaningful sense "free."

http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/03/where_were_you_when_the_republ.html

DO NOT STAND FOR THIS!

Repeal the bill!

The Individual Mandate must be declared Unconstitutional!

This is such a gross and OVERT power grab that goes against the very language let alone intent of the constitution that I find it difficult to impossible that anyone can honestly say that it is constitutional with a straight face!

If the FEDERAL govenment has the power to force you to buy any good or goods of their choice (not just in general but specific goods as this health bill does), then the Federal government has unlimited power over it’s citizens!

This CANNOT be allowed to happen if we are to remain free and independent in any meaningful sense of the terms!

Basically, if the Senate Bill is allowed to remain in it’s current form, then there is no specific good or service that the Federal Govt can not FORCE you to buy (or use) or be a criminal. At that point you have a Federal Govt with total power over the invididual. No way that is constitutional.

the individual mandate is blantanly Unconstitutional….

Essentially the SCOTUS would be okaying unchecked government with unlimited powers….

If they dont overturn it, we essentially have NO individual rights….

The thing is, the Individual Mandate MUST stay in it’s current form for the Senate Bill or the entire structural provisions on which the cost-basis and structure for government run so-called “private insurance” (really sub-contracted medical welfare) is based falls to itty bitty pieces.

The Democrats and radical left all know that HC lives or dies by the individual mandate.

With it, the Govt gets enough power to eventually force-feed a socialized “single payer” system (which is the end-goal all along) by causing the insurance "death sprial" as government regulations like mandatory coverages, "guarenteed issue", and "no pre-exisiting conditions" allow people to game the system as premiums soar and people drop health insurance coverage until they get sick/hurt and need it!
Without the Individual Mandate, the bill is completely toothless:

No Individual Mandate = no “universal” compliance to force people against their will into the government run system

No Individual Mandate = no rationale for “subsidies” or extreme taxation/wealth redistribution

No Invididual Mandate = no rational justification for "community rating”, "guarnteed issue", or "no preexsisting conditions" regulations

No Invidual Mandate = no legitimate reason for governmental interfernce into your personal medical or insurance decsions (if their is an Individual Mandate, government always gets to play “referee” and tell you, doctors, and insurance firms what the rules are)

Yes, seeking protections from our courts for our individual rights are our best hope at this point.....

Pray that this gets to the SCOTUS ASAP before one of the republican appointed judges gets sick!

Stupak Intended to Sell-Out All the Time! See the Video!

“Video proof: Stupak lied about health care vote all along

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Clearly, pro-life Democrat Bart Stupak has lied to Americans in his opposition to the current health care bill and saying that he would not vote for the bill because it supported federal funding of abortion. He never intended to vote against the legislation when it came down to final vote, in the first place. Just listen to this video of Bart Stupak recorded last year, when he was unaware he was being recorded, and you learn the truth.”

CrappyCare is about Politcal Power and Control not Medical Care or Costs!

Excellent article on RedState that strikes at the real DESRTUTIVE ELEMENT OF CRAPPYCARE - the Individual Mandate!:

http://www.redstate.com/fmaidment/2010/03/17/almost-forgotten-the-insurance-mandate-lie/

"This, I think, is the real reason for the mandate: It has nothing to do with covering more people, or ensuring that people don’t game the system when pre-existing conditions are no longer an obstacle to obtaining insurance (that’s a whole other diatribe). In fact, the mandate is intended to break the system. When the mandate is enacted it will, after a fashion, cause the price of health insurance to skyrocket making health insurance affordable to fewer people. These skyrocketing prices will be blamed on those uncaring, inhuman insurance companies and their evil, greedy, profit-hungry corporate managers. We are already being conditioned to think this way about insurance companies by the media and the Democrats. Then, when Americans demand a solution, the Democrats can step in with their Public Option™, explaining how it “works” so well in Europe, Canada and elsewhere (as they have tried to do each time they propose it here).

The Democrats have taken the long-term view on this: They understand that once this legislation is enacted, it will be virtually impossible to repeal or even curtail. They take pieces out of their legislation but never consider adding free-market alternatives, because they know each piece added from their agenda inexorably leads to higher costs and greater demands that the government “DO SOMETHING!” about those costs. They want to break the system so that they can take it over, and they know that once they control our health care, they control us.

This bill has to be stopped. It has to be stopped now. Not in November. Not in 2012. Now. Today."

Republican Sellout Update: Gregg Goes on Greta to push His ObamaCare-clone Plan!

Here is an update on the potential turncoat, Judd Gregg:

He was on Fox with Greta's "On the Record" show tonight pushing his ObamaCare-clone "compromise" plan:

http://gretawire.blogs.foxnews.com/senator-judd-gregg-and-health-care/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogs%2FGretawire+%28Blogs+-+Gretawire%29

Gregg calls his plan "comprehensive" - thats code for massive government involvement....

Gregg states his plan "give access to afforadable insurance for catestrophic care"......but does not mention that his specific proposal is for an Indvidual Mandate and massive government subsidies!

Gregg states that it "promotes prevention"......again, another liberal myth designed to support government intervention in the form of coverage mandates and rationing!

Finally, he states that it has "creative pricing that pays for quality of care not for procedures".......this is leftist code for government rationing and price control schemes!

Gregg called his solution "free market based" - thats complete hogwash!

He clearly is spinning his verison of GOVT HC or else has not even fact-checked his own plan versus the reality of Compulsary Insurance/Individual Mandates in MA, ME, HI as to how they work in practice.

Its basically a 100% ObamaCare plan that gives the left the key items it desires right now (ie the individual mandate and government control of HC). Essentially, it just tinkers a bit with the amount of government-dictated insurance that people will be forced to buy and how many citizens will become government welfare cases thru subsidies:

http://gregg.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/CPR-Exec%20Summary-June%201-FINAL.pdf

These are the key quotes right from his posted plan!:

“ENSURING ACCESS FOR ALL AMERICANS: In order to ensure that every American has quality, affordable coverage, the proposal requires proof of health insurance for every American over age 18 and requires insurers to offer coverage to all applicants, regardless of health status.

TARGETED SUBSIDIES FOR THOSE MOST IN NEED: The proposal includes direct subsidies for low-income individuals for the purchase of a low-premium major medical health insurance plan – subsidies for both the premium and deductible on a sliding scale up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).”

Yep, this is handing the left and Obama everything they want. ALL compulsary insurance plans are government run HC with a "private" facade - ReidCare, NancyCare, RomneyCare, DringoCare, and ObamaCare are centered around forcing individuals to buy Health Insurance thats essentially dictated by politicans and technocrats.

When we are this close to victory, lets not allow the same old "inside the beltway" establishment Politicans sell us out!

Finally, I have heard waves of paid ACORN types flooding the talk radio shows promoting the Individual Mandate (two on Hannity alone today!) with standard DNC talking points about "free riders" and "forcing responsibility".....

Again, any unpaid care is less then 2% of our total HC costs annually - the leftist "fix" of Compulsary Govt run insurance will cost us a HUNDRED TIMES more in higher premiums, new taxes, expanded medical welfare, and new subsidy payments!

Lets not let them get away with suckering us into accepting Govt run HC in a phoney attempt to reduce a minor costs when there true intentions are to cause costs to soar and for honest working people to pay more!

Here is an article that states the facts on the "free rider" issue:

http://wylieecoyote.blogtownhall.com/2010/02/25/the_left_is_back_out_in_force_on_radio,_tv,_etc_pushing_the_individual_mandate_-_dont_be_fooled!_compulsary_insurance_is_govt_run_hc!.thtml

The Left is Back Out in Force on Radio, TV, etc Pushing the Individual Mandate - Dont be fooled! Compulsary Insurance IS GOVT RUN HC!

he "huge problem" of "uncompesated ER care", while true to a degree, has simply been overblown way out of proportion to its actual impact on costs. It is a very minor issue at best and some of the assumptions about the problem are simply false and rooted in myth and not facts.

Its now a boiler plate talking point used by the left as an appeal to envy/resentment against our fellow humans to push Compulsary Government run schemes like ObamaCare, RomneyCare etc because such mandatory coverage schemes allow government to takeover the health care system. In the realm of issues with the health care system,

First, its a myth that everyone without insurance does not pay for their medical care or go to the ER to get it. This is false - a majority can and do pay all, most, or at least some of their billed costs (Kaiser states that the uninsured pay 85% of the costs). Please have more faith in your fellow American Citizen!

Second, the so-called "free rider" issue you cite is a very, very small cost and not at all out of line with the "cost shifting" that occurs in every other industry and service in America from government mandates and/or simple theft/fraud. According to the Kaiser Foundation's 2008 study on Uncompensated care, the cost passed on to the privately insured individual is 8 Billion dollars or less than $200 annually per privately insured household which is peanuts compared to the Trillions that Democrats are proposing to hit us with in new taxes, fees, premium hikes so that you can turn around and spend it to provide subsidies for the citizens your are forcing to buy private health coverage. So to "solve" the problem of "free riders" we would end up paying much much more in higher premiums and taxes! The "solution" of mandated insurance costs the average American much more the the current minor issue.

"The remainder of uncompensated care left to be covered by private dollars is relatively small compared to the $830 billion that will be spent by the privately insured this year (< 2%)"

Here is the kaiser study with the details:

Third, essentially this so-called "cost" of ER care or other uncompensated care has always and will always be there. Medical charity care has and will always be their. Studies have shown that prior to the 1986 EMTA law that mandated ER care, roughly the same amount of money was given by hospitals/providers as charity care. Essentially, this supposed "uncompesated care" was likely to be given away anyways so its a wash in terms of cost.

Forth, Mandatory Insurance schemes (like the one Senator Gregg is now pushing) dont fix this problem at all. People still find ways to avoid the mandate and get fire or subsidied care. Due to the "preexsisting" conditions clause that goes with mandatory insurance schemes, many people determine thats its to their monetary advatange to wait until sick to buy insurance (ie its cheaper for them to pay the fine/tax and then buy insurance)  and then cancel it as soon as their bills are paid. Insurnance firms in MA that has the exact same ObamaCare compulsary insurance schemes report that up to 75% of their claims paid are for "customers" who are enrolled for 6 months or less. This opens a whole new and larger "free rider" cost issues then ER care. Moreover, Compulsary Insurance effectively expands and places more of the population onto medical welfare programs like medicade - the ultimate cost shifting to tax payers and private insurnace (since govt underpays providers, the cost is always shifted to private payers). Applying force to the problem simply doesnt work.

Here are the real results from MA:

•Official estimates overstate the coverage gains under the Massachusetts law by roughly 50 percent.
•The actual coverage gains may be lower still, because uninsured Massachusetts residents appear to be concealing their lack of insurance rather than admit to breaking the law.
•Public programs crowded out private insurance among low-income children and adults.
•Self-reported health improved for some, but fell for others.
•Young adults appear to be avoiding Massachusetts as a result of the law.
•Leading estimates understate the cost of the Massachusetts law by at least one third.

Thats a whole lot of new "costs" to make a failed attempt to make those "freeloaders" pay, eh?

Here is how Health Policy expert Michael Cannon at the CATO Institute puts it: “The left’s most powerful argument in favor of an Individual Mandate - that the Uninsured sometimes end up in the ER, and unable to pay their bills - isn’t powerful enough. The appropriate response to this problem is not to take away the freedom of the non-free riders. The appropriate response is to leave the non-free riders alone, to place the cost of the “uncompensated” care on the would-be free riders, and to write off any remaining uncompensated care as the price of living in a free and decent society.”

And

"Most uninsured people don’t end up in an emergency room.  As for those who do, research shows that the uninsured as a group more than pay their own way. Many simply pay their bills without imposing costs on anyone. And because they typically pay premium prices for medical care — far more than is ordinarily reimbursed by public or private insurance — they more than offset the cost of uncompensated care to the uninsured overall, according to MIT economist Jonathan Gruber and others.

Even if we ignore that evidence, uncompensated care to the uninsured accounts for about 2.2 percent of national health expenditures.  The left-leaning Urban Institute writes, “Private insurance premiums are at most 1.7 percent higher because of the shifting of the costs of the uninsured to private insurers in the form of higher charges.”  That’s hardly a crisis.

And think about it: an uninsured person is wheeled into an emergency room, unconscious and bleeding.  Is this person able to harm anyone?  Is this person in a position to impose costs on you?  Of course not.

What imposes costs on you are the laws that require the doctors and hospitals to treat those patients without regard to ability to pay — and the ethical codes that would impel doctors to treat them even if there were no such laws.  If you have a problem with those laws/codes, make them the focus of your ire.  If you support them, surely you can’t be upset that they increase your premiums by 1.7 percent.  Isn’t that a small price to pay to live in a compassionate society?

But if you’re still angry about that 1.7 percent, bear in mind that the Reid individual mandate — which is essentially a bailout for private health insurance companies — would increase the cost of insurance for some people by 30 percent and would require additional taxes on top of that."

Here is a Mr. Cannon's analysis that debunks the "free rider" cost myth:

http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2009/12/11/the-reid-individual-mandate-an-affront-to-the-constitution/

Here is an article that debunks that fully outlines this simplic appeal to envy:

http://townhall.com/columnists/JacobSullum/2009/09/23/does_cost_of_uncompensated_care_justify_forcing_people_to_buy_insurance

Contrary to popular opinion in the media, the Individual Mandate, not the so-called public option is the key provision in Obamcare and this is why the left will push just about any myth possible to get people to accept it as its the gateway to governmental control.

This is a very dangerous period because Nationalization will still occur even without an overt government run insurance plan like this "public option" provision everyone keeps fixating on - RomenyCare, Wyden/Bennett and the Bacus bill are prime examples of this. Here are the core elements what will be contained in the “health care reform compromise” after the so-called “public option” is in all likelihood dropped:

(a) Federal Regulation aka HEALTH CZAR/DEATH PANELS

(b) Employer/Individual Mandates aka NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE

 (c) Government Subsidies aka MIDDLE CLASS MEDICAL WELFARE

With the Federal Government setting the rules, forcing everyone to participate, and is paying the bills for most of the middle class through subsidies how is this anything other than Nationalization?

Again, the use of false information is part and parcel to the left's push for government run health care....

The appeal to envy with the "ER problem" is dangerous because it plays on people's sense of fair play and honesty. However, its an overblown problem propped up by myth and emotion not facts. And its a "problem" solely created by past bad government interverntion. The "solution" is to remove the previous bad government interventions NOT to add more costly government intervention in the form of Compulsary insurnace.

Here is a GOP Sellout that puts Scott Brown to Shame!

A Compulsary Insurance scheme is a huge victory cause thats the heart of CrappyCare – anything with mandatory purchase of govt dictated insurance, a subsidy scheme, and federal regulatory control is a victory for Obama and the left…
And we have several GOPers just stupid enough to fall for that trap (see Willard as case study #1 and Bob Bennett as case study #2)….

In fact, we have retiring GOPer Judd Gregg pushing his own ObamaCare sellout bill:

We have “conservative” talkers endless ranting about Scott Brown’s supposed “sellout” on a bill thats essentailly less then meaningless in the big picture, yet not a peep about a guy who has a dangerous proposal that posted on line that will hand the left everything it wants in the HC fight… Where is the sense of priorities here?

Liberty, Freedom, and Individual Rights Are the Solution - Government Intervention is the Root of All Our Problems

This article is a MUST READ – it explains how respect for personal freedom/individual rights lead to a properous economy and a robust society whereas the acceptance of the docctrie that government intervention/force can “fix” things or engineer utopia on earth leads to ruin:

http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/02/the_economic_crisis_is_only_a.html

“Our serious economic crisis can be attributed to the abandonment of constitutional principles that began long ago. Establishment of a central bank was anathema to our Founding Fathers. Arguably, the establishment of the Federal Reserve in 1913 was unconstitutional.
No serious economist can overlook the key role played by the Federal Reserve in causing the current crisis. Nor can one overlook its debauch of the currency, though one of its founding purposes was to protect the value of the currency. Since the Federal Reserve’s formation, the purchasing power of the dollar has fallen by 96 percent. Most of that occurred after 1971, when the country left the gold standard and the Fed was without limitations.

Government is generally precluded from entering the realm of economic matters by the Constitution. Once that restriction was ignored, there was no limit to the harm that could be inflicted. Economics itself is a self-correcting system under most circumstances. However, in a world where government is unconstrained, politicians see every minor discomfort as an opportunity for an intervention and a means to gain more power.

All intervention contravenes the corrective mechanism of markets, generally worsening the original problem. This leads to demands for additional political intervention. Each one worsens the problem and weakens the economy’s ability to self-correct. Interventionism is not self-sustaining, as explained by Ludwig von Mises:

An essential point in the social philosophy of interventionism is the existence of an inexhaustible fund which can be squeezed forever. The whole system of interventionism collapses when this fountain is drained off: The Santa Claus principle liquidates itself”

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The basic premise of the American Revolution is that the people are soverign and capable of self-government - we do not need an elite or ruling class of our "betters" or "enlighted" to run things or tell us how best to live - every man is equal to all others under the law and all are endowed with inalienable rights from the Creator (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness).

Government derives its powers from the consent of the people and exsist solely for the protection of individual rights and liberties. All rights and liberties are inherent in the people and are always retained by the people - government is simply the collective agent for protection of these rights in situations where individual are unable or incapable of providing for protection of our own rights (ie domestically against common criminals - that is to say citizens who violate the rights of other citizens and externally against foreign threats to our soverignty).

We must get back to core conservative principles if we are to regain our liberty, prosperity, and social health. Here is are the essential principles we must consistently apply to every issue and question before us, politically and otherwise:

- Personal Freedom

- Equal Protection for Individual Rights

- Free Markets

- Consitituional/Limited Government

- Federalism

Common Sense Government

Here is a telling quote from a recent John Stosell article here on town hall:

http://townhall.com/columnists/JohnStossel/2010/02/17/education_too_important_for_a_government_monopoly

“Why do parents with meager resources pass up “free” government schools and sacrifice to send their children to private schools? Because, as one parent told the BBC, the private owner will do something that’s virtually impossible in America’s government schools: replace teachers who do not teach.”

This brings up a very central question in today's politics: What exactly are core functions of government?

Pretty much government is very good at one thing: using force to protect our rights (ie law enforcement and military)

Its okay at this: Public safety and settlement of disputes (ie Fire protection, courts and such)

Pretty Bad: Adminsitering charity (ie welfare, etc)

Really Really Bad: Providing goods/services in lieu of markets (ie education, medical care, etc).

I could go on and on with further subdivisions…..but you get the point.

The CORE FUNCTION of government is to protect our individual rights and liberties (we always retain those rights as individuals, governments are formed with the consent of the people and act as deputies to protect those right as a colletive agent for the people as whole in situtions where they are incapable of protecting them as an individual – example a military is needed to deter foreign invasion etc)

The more we ask them to take up tasks that are further away from their core functions, the worse government performs. Assuming such task are Constitutionally permited (further assuming that the Consititution is adhered too by the people and their government; an extremely shaky proposition in the U.S. right now), we the people can certain assign government any tasks we please. But often times its akin to picking the wrong tool or person for the job.

For example, we could ask a logger to give us a hair cut with his chain saw and he would likely attempt it provided the compensation was enough – but would we be happy with the results (or even survive to see the results!)?

The government is particularly terrible and inefficient at tasks that are essentially market based or charitable acts. Yet we continue to accept them perfoming these functions for us despite the consistently bad (or even tragic) results. Usually, this is due to alot of leftist mumbo jumbo about “compassion” or “econominc/social justice” that is designed to ellict guilt responses or to shift debate away from facts/results.

Until we unapoligetically make the case for common sense government based on the principles of personal freedom, equal protection of individual rights, free markets, limited/Consititutional Government, and Federalism we will continue to see these disfunctional results and a continued deteriation of our nation and society.
